Things to Do

There are plenty of things to do in the Shuswap area. Take your pick! Song Birds Bed & Breakfast is situated on White Lake, which is a small lake in-between the larger arms of Shuswap Lake.

Food & Drink

After enjoying a homemade hot breakfast via Song Birds Bed & Breakfast, Explore the Shuswap’s tourism website for the best, most up-to-date food and drink options available to you. The region has no shortage of breweries, cafes, bakeries, cideries, distilleries, pubs, restaurants, and wineries for you to enjoy. Because the best holidays always start with the best food!

Kayaking & Paddleboarding

With not a lot of boat traffic, White Lake is perfect for beginner kayakers. The size of the lake also means expert kayakers can see almost the entire thing in an afternoon.

Stand-up paddleboarding is another popular activity in the Shuswap. At Song Birds, you have your own private dock access for kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, canoes, and other types of non-motorized boats. A boat launch for power boats is just a 2-minute drive away from the property.

Boating & Canoeing

You can also bring your canoe, which is another fantastic way to experience White Lake. Small power boats and jet skis are also allowed on White Lake.

Fishing

There are plenty of fish to catch in White Lake, especially rainbow trout, from either your small power boat or canoe. Or if you have the means of exploring the larger Shuswap Lake, it contains 19 species of fish!

Salmon Arm Wharf is a great place to fish if you don’t have a boat.

Swimming

White Lake is popular with swimmers. You’ll often find locals in their floaties all summer long, and some locals who even swim across the lake year-round. Your personal dock at Song Birds is the perfect starting point.

Whether you’re boating or swimming on White Lake, be on the lookout for Western Painted Turtles: White Lake is home to the intermountain-Rocky Mountain population of the Western Painted Turtles, which is the only native pond turtle left in British Columbia. You can easily find Painted Turtles basking on partially submerged logs during warm sunny days.

Beaches & Parks

Enjoy lake country culture from one of the area’s many beaches and lakefront parks. There are several beaches and parks in the Shuswap open to the public for relaxing, hiking, suntanning, picnicking, camping and swimming.
